Liberal Lies Falling Apart

Thursday, there was a story in the WaPo (of all places) which shows that one of the liberal lies regarding the levees is political bullshit as usual. This goes without saying. They like to use the little cutesy phrase that Bush fiddled his guitar while New Orleans drowned. I think it’s safe to say that while the sick bastards on the left fabricated more lies, New Orleans drowned. You can include Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin in the sick bastard category too.

We learn from this story that contrary to popular opinion, Louisiana not only received its share of Army Corps of Engineers funding, it led the nation in receiving such funds. We also learn that most of the funds went to pork-barrel projects that had nothing to do with flood control thanks to the efforts of Louisiana’s congressional delegation. And finally, we learn that the Bush Administration provided more money for flood control than did the Clinton Administration before it and that even though the Corps requested more money, ‘Lt. Gen. Carl Strock, the chief of the Corps, has said that in any event, more money would not have prevented the drowning of the city, since its levees were designed to protect against a Category 3 storm, and the levees that failed were already completed projects.’

I trust that we will remember all of this as arguments rage over whether government needs to be bigger and that funding for Louisiana was skimped on. I realize that once memes catch on, they are difficult to displace but lives depend on the displacement of this meme. Otherwise, we are fated to continue playing pork-barrel politics while our cities face potential destruction from either a natural disaster or from a terrorist attack. Last I checked, this wasn’t a good option.”
